What has been going on:
- Both ER and JA performed in the Solo and Ensemble Festival at ASH on January 26. Students prepare an instrumental or vocal piece and then are judged. The comments are more educational then competitive. Like the Diocesan Band Festival. JA did a solo flute performance of "Requiem". She had been sick with the flu for 3 days before the performance and was still earned a "1+" the highest mark. ER did a duet with her friend who plays the baritone. They played the theme from "Kingdom Hearts" and received a "2+".
- ER auditioned and made it into the Middle School musical, "Mulan, Jr." She is one of the ancestors, Destiny. The ancestors serve as a sort of Greek chorus and so she will be on stage the whole time. The performances are May 16 & 17.
- JA auditioned for the High School One Acts and made it into the "Devised Play." The players are going to write the play themselves. They need to be very focused since the performance dates are April 4 & 5. JA will also will be on the Tech Crew for "Mulan, Jr." and is helping to design and build the sets in her Stage Production Class.
- ER auditioned and was selected by her choir teacher for the AMIS International Middle School Honor Mixed Choir which will be in Aberdeen, Scotland May8-10.
- JA will be attending an IB Theatre Workshop in Istanbul, Turkey April 24-27.
Here is our upcoming travel schedule and other important events so you know in case you email us and don't receive a timely response:
- Feb 10-15: February break for school. Entire family traveling to Malta
- Feb 26-March 2: European Middle School Honor Band in Rabat, Morocco. ER is going to play in the band. Terry & Mary Ann going to go and be tourists. JA stays behind in Holland with friends.
- March 20-March 30: JA College Tour during Easter Break. JA, ER and Mary Ann are coming back to Virginia to take JA on a college tour in Virgina and North Carolina so she can see the campuses she's interested in for music education and talk to teachers and administration. Terry will stay in the Netherlands.
- April 24-27: JA to IB Theatre Workshop in Istanbul, Turkey
- April 30 (Queen's Day), May 1&2 (Ascension Holiday) - School closed; enjoy staying at home.
- May 8-11: ER to Aberdeen, Scotland for the Middle School Mixed Voice Honor Choir
- May 25-29: ER to Switzerland for Grade 8 Project Trip. She's been in training for mountain climbing since her first day in PE.
- June 12: Last day of school
- Summer 2008 - coming home to visit; dates unknown - If you think you want to visit us, please email us now so that we can work out schedules.
And the sun is rising about 8:25 which means the girls have some light while waiting for the bus, and it is going down about 5:30 pm. Spring is on its way!
